Happy Chinese New Year!

This week's Diva Challenge (#205) is to incorporate the Chinese New Year into the tile. What better way to do that than to use the Chinese symbol for Happy New Year? At least that was my idea, but on paper...not so much. I think I zigged when I should have zagged.

I started with the bottom and immediately presented myself with some issues, but so be it. As I reached the center portion, I wanted something flowy, organic and not Barber Pole! I kept saying to myself "No Barber Pole. No Barber Pole!" I like Barber Pole a lot, but sometimes it's just too Beetlejuice, if you know what I mean.

What came out of my pen? Barber Pole.

The result looks much more like a medical symbol than a Chinese symbol, but it was still fun to do.

Nonetheless, Happy New Year! May your year be full of wrong turns that turn into great adventures!

I have a laundry list of things that really need to get done. Washing, weeding, decluttering, grocery shopping, but isn't this just so much more fun?

The challenge this week on Square One was Huggins. I love this pattern so it was a good one to spend Valentine's Day with. I also really enjoy Slines by Lori Howe.

I seem to take my pictures at about the same time of day because I'm noticing that a lot of them have the window screen shadow on them.

 

 

It's the Little Things

Not a lot of time to be creative today, but did add some final touches to the bookmark before popping it in the mail.

Poor thing is en route to Boston where they are expecting yet another blizzard. Hope it makes it!

I had just finished this bookmark for a swap when I was reminded that in five minutes the Falcon 9 rocket was going to launch.

For the bookmark, I tangled one head, scanned it, flipped it and printed it for the dragon image.

There's another round robin going and I did get my piece of that done though! Into the mail it will go tomorrow.

The Eyes Have It!

This hasn't happened in 10 years! Hanging with my boy and drawing!

The Beav is home for the weekend and one of his homework assignments is to draw an eye. We drew eyes together! His is the larger one. He taught me how to do it from what he's learned in class.

 

For his next trick, he started doing 3D drawings.

I finally made time to do one of the pattern mixer challenges that Anya Lothrop puts up. I keep starting them but never seem to get them finished. That month is just too long and I can come up with too many excuses!

This month's challenge is to mix cadet with buttercup. Here's what I came up with:

I think it looks like fluttering signal flags.

What a nice evening it's been. If only our kids knew how happy it makes a mom to just be in the quiet moments with them.

In the Zone!

I don't know if it's what I had for dinner or how the stars were aligned, but I was in the zone today.

Sat down to read emails at 8:30, playing around at my craft table at 9 and suddenly it was 2:30 and I had four ATCs done!

Then I cleaned up my space and finished a tile I had started last night. I combined the Diva's Callenge #203 using Athitzi by Seven and Kelly's call to try out her new pattern Awaysis. As both patterns begin with the letter A, I decided to continue with the As (A's? As'? - That's just one of those words) with Asian Fans, Antique and Antidots.

The four ATCs I created were for two different swaps on Swap-bot. The first is a 'mixed-media based on the color purple' swap and the second is for a swap where there must be a map somewhere in the design. I live within an hour of all the major attractions, so I used the park maps for Universal Studios and LegoLand.

Once I really wrap my head around this ATC thing, I should do a Theme Park series!

I also finally broke down and broke out that white gel pen I've been saving. LOVE IT!

I have always been kind of a purist on my tangles: Black ink on white or cream paper, but I really broke out of my mold today! Not only did I put white ink on black paper, but I (GASP!) put a little red ink on cream paper that I painted! There's just no stopping me now!

I'm also taking a page from Lori's book over at All Things Tangled. She has challenged herself to doing all the strings listed on tanglepatterns.com and I think this is a great idea. Even though the string is supposed to be organic and just "fall from the pencil onto the paper", mine always seem to look the same. And you know what they say? "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." So, thanks for the great tip Lori.
