I'm Grateful When Half the Plan Comes Together

A new month, a new lesson in my Year of Altered Books Class. This one was a stinker!

I couldn't figure out what topic I was going to do this technique with, but thank goodness for 3 am epiphanies!

The right hand pages came together almost immediately! I guess I chose the right magazines to go through for that one. The left hand pages were hard won, but I didn't give up.

There's some more fluffing that should probably be done with these pages, but I'll have to get back to them - the lesson was in the technique and the lesson is done! Woo Hoo!

This is an example of crossing that great divide also known as the center of the book. I like this page and after the Mama Said page from yesterday, my brain needed a break.

If I don't stop playing around in my craft room and go get some chores done, this Mama's not going to be saying much of anything because she'll be on a self-imposed craft room restriction and that won't make for a very happy Mama!

My Tie

In my Year of Altered Book class we are learning how to create interactive elements on the pages. This was my first run at it and already I have a hundred other ideas running through my head.

I used the Botanical Interest 2015 catalogue almost exclusively as it kept me from falling - again - down the proverbial rabbit hole and never getting this completed. One element I really like is my zebra butterfly. I recently rediscovered my Sizzix Dye cutter and as luck would have it, I had a butterfly cutter. That cutter plus zebra duct tape on card stock = awesome butterfly. I need to buy more patterns of duct tape. Not.

I sure wish I could remember why I bought an inch worm punch. I hope it was deeply discounted when I purchased it.

I know this page needs many more layers and it also has an identity issue. That's okay. It's me learning and developing my own style.

Snowman Poop

I did this page for the February challenge of the Year of Altered Book class. Great plan...in my head.

I liked the image of this woman in the polka dotted dress and found a quote which I added to for the sake of the page: "In one sentence, I'd describe myself as indescribable. But I wouldn't end it with a period. I'd end it with three dots. Polka dots." Cute, no? I added the polka dot line.

In case you are wondering, that quote is credited to Jason Schwartzman. I didn't recognize the name either, but then I googled him and Oh My God! I LOVE him! Have you seen Darjeelilng Limited? Jason Schwartzman. Grand Budapest Hotel? Jason Schwartzman. And one of my favoriteitsucksitwascancelledtvseries: Bored to Death. Yep. Jason Schwartzman.

Who knew?

So back to the point. I had the dress. I had the quote. I had polka dot tissue. I made polka dot tape transfers.

I made a page that looks like a snowman pooped all over a fourth of July picnic.

Learning...

I completed the first lesson challenge for my Year of Altered Books class. I'm pretty happy with how she turned out, but I think there's more that can be done. For example, I would love to put a word on the right hand page. It will still be in my practice book for embellishment later...

One Step Forward....

I am almost a month behind with my A Year of Altered Books class, but this is my 'one step forward' for the month of January. Tomorrow will see it to completion!

50 Days of Creativity!

It feels appropriate that on the 50th day of the year, I complete my first altered book page! And the message is one I continually have to remind myself of:

Stop chasing butterflies and jump!
