A quiet day today. Moving slowly, waiting for the Aleve to kick in. I think that house will allow me to cancel my gym membership.
I'm trying to dull down the background I was working on the other day. I've added some glazes and fingerpainted with black gesso in an attempt to grunge it up just a bit. I am liking the texture that was left by the stencil.
This is my new creative venture: A house. A big house. A big house that needs a lot of work. A big house that needs a lot of work that will be so amazing when it's finished that I'll hate to see it sell as quickly as it will sell. (Hear me, universe?)
This is just the beginning of getting the jungle that will be the back yard under control. It may not appear to be a creative process just yet but it is!

I'm pleased with the background that's starting to happen here. I like that grungy kind of look.

I don't know if this happens to you, but when I watch tutorials that are done at high speed, I find that I'm working in double time when trying to emulate them.

I would say more but I'm weally weally tired!
When someone says "Skeleton Key", what do you think of? What colors come to mind? Black and white, sepia, darkness, spooky. This is what I think of.
So I had to make an ATC using a book page and a skeleton key. I also read the profile of the person to whom I was sending this and she's a huge Edgar Allan Poe fan. But it's spring! It's sunny (well, it's always sunny here so that doesn't mean much) It's just not skeleton key weather.

Only after the ATC was complete did I read the book page that I used. (I have discovered that when I do anything that requires a book page, I just have to put it down without looking otherwise I'll end up reading the story) It was torn from a Reader's Digest Condensed Book and I don't know what this story is about but on the page it's talking about blood and bubbles and smearing so I guess it is true: Where there are skeleton keys there is darkness whether you planned it or not.
This ATC swap was tough! I did learn something about myself though:
There are so many directions a Night Vale ATC can go in. Dog Park, Angels, Spiders, Carlos. Yep I'm a Nerd Girl.
Actually it's really worse than all that because on April 1st, I have tickets to see Night Vale performed live! I am more excited than Cecil was the first time Carlos actually called him!
Enough of that. Here's the ATC. I regret having waited until the last to make it because it should have been so much more, but as you know I have been in Altered Book heaven recently and now the piper must be paid!
I am on a tear with these altered book pages and loving it!
This is an example of crossing that great divide also known as the center of the book. I like this page and after the Mama Said page from yesterday, my brain needed a break.

If I don't stop playing around in my craft room and go get some chores done, this Mama's not going to be saying much of anything because she'll be on a self-imposed craft room restriction and that won't make for a very happy Mama!
