Like so many people, I watch the news at night and go to bed crying. I watch the news in the morning and start my day in tears. I feel so helpless.
The news gets better though. While reading through one of my favorite blogs: Maya*Made, I learned about another blogger who is raising money for Doctors Without Borders in a very creative way. What was even better about this find is that this is the organization to which I have wanted to donate my money.
What Craft Hope has done is set up an Etsy shop to which crafters can donate their handmade items and from which people can purchase these items. 100% of the proceeds goes to Doctors Without Borders!
I purchased a print with a J.R.R. Tolkein quote on it. Now I am in the process of coming up with appropriate prices for several pieces of lace that I have knit and which I am now going to donate to this cause.
My sadness has come from the fact that I cannot hop on a plane to Haiti and use my hands to comfort the sad, the hurt and the frightened. I cannot be there to help move rubble. I'm unable to dispense clean water for the thirsty. What I can do is knit and sew and make paper crafts to donate to this cause and this will be a good use of my hands.
If you create or simply appreciate that which has been created, go to Craft Hope. I promise it will make you feel better.
