Everywhere is classical and traditional music.
Across the street from the hotel, is a new building going up. The other morning as the large crane lifted spans of metal, classical music played here in the lounge. Somehow, the music matched the tempo of the metal gently swinging as it rose into the sky and it reminded me of a clip from Fantasia (the original one.)
Yesterday found me in Englischer Gardens at the bier garten by the large Pagoda. A group of men dressed in lederhosen climbed to the stage on the second tier of the pagoda and began playing traditional German music. It was the perfect backdrop to watching the people walk past with their dogs and children, sitting drinking bier and laughing or just sitting and enjoying the weather and the music.
Last night, I had dinner downtown at the Augistiner Biergarten. After a delicious meal of venison and fresh chantrel mushrooms with spaetzel, I came out to find live classical music being played in front of one of the department stores. It was so beautiful, the violins, clarinet, cello and flutes. A crowd of 50 or so people stood listening in absolute silence. I almost felt that I was in a concert hall listening, the crowd was so quiet.
Even in the subway station, classical music is played over the loudspeakers. It's wonderful.
Today I'm off to visit Inge and Martin with Erika and Margie. The weather is warm again so I think I'll change into something a bit cooler than what I'm wearing now.
